A 21 years old man was nabbed for exhuming his late mother’s body

The police at Lebowakgomo have arrested a 21 years old man for violation of grave which occurs at Dithabaneng village in GA-Mphahlele area.

It is alleged that the suspect went to the local cemetery during December 2017 and started digging his mother’s grave who was since buried in 2001 until he finally exhumed her bones during January 2018 and took them home.

On Monday of 2018-03-05, members of the community noticed him moving around the village carrying a human skull and immediately called the police.

Upon receiving this report the police reacted swiftly and on arrival, they found a full human skeleton at the suspect’s house and arrested him.

One of the community member John Maja (36) said: “Our country is coming to an end, how come a normal person disturb the dead by exhuming their body and gallant the streets with their body? At first I thought it was dream until I realised that indeed it’s a human skull. I am glad he was arrested earlier before he could harm someone else. And this man should be checked mentally” said Maja.

The preliminary Police investigations have also revealed a lot of cattle bones in the same house and furthermore the suspect sometimes carries his mother’s skull inside the bag when he goes to the shopping centers and banks as he believes that will protect him from any danger.

Polokwane SAPS Spokesman Moatshe Ngoepe said: “The real motivate behind this incident is still not clear at this stage but the police investigations will tell as they are still unfolding”.

He added that the suspect will appear before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate Court soon on a charge of violation of grave. The police investigations are still continuing, said Ngoepe.
