TUBATSE – After being on the run for a week, murder accused Tumelo Kgwedi has been cuffed again. Kgwedi was arrested in Stofberg on February 25. According to Limpopo police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe they received a tip off that the escapee hitch hiked a sedan at Tukakgomo village and was heading to Gauteng.
“Four constables attached to the Sekhukhune SAPS, set up a road block on the R555 and awaited the vehicle. When the vehicle came, Kgwedi was nabbed. During the arrest he was found with two unlicensed firearms a CZ 9mm and 3.8 revolver”
Kgwedi escaped from prison on February 19, along with other accused Zandile Lebambo and Simon Mokone. The trio allegedly cut off the cells roof.
Lebambo was rearrested the following day at Madiseng village while Mokone was fatally shot during a shoot-out with the police. On Monday, Kgwedi appeared before the Sekhukhune’s Magistrate Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and for escaping from lawful custody. He was denied bail and his case has been postponed to March 23.
