Anglo American Platinum clearly adheres to that notion. The company aims to improve the youth in the Sekhukhune district. Anglo American Platinum organized a career expo for Grade 12 learners of Ngwaabe comprehensive school and Nkotoane Secondary School.
The event took place at De Brochen Project on the 20th of February 2018.
Anglo American Platinum Management together with the contractor Stefanutti Stocks Management took the learners around De Brochen Project. This was done for the learners to see how they worked. The pupils were also given a chance to grasp the blasting at Mareesburg site where the Tailings Dam is being built. The learners received goodies such as study guides and caps.
The Project Manager of Anglo American Platinum Mr Johan Hendriks encouraged the leaners to work hard in order to pave a bright future for themselves.
You must learn to earn. If you study hard, opportunities are galore in the mining industry. The future is in your hands. We want to see more women venture into the fields of mining and engineering. Love what you do in order to excel. Be committed and have passion for your studies.
Hendriks also took the opportunity to reveal the lists of careers the mining companies requires. The careers included amongst others mechanical, artisans, engineers, construction engineers metallurgists, geologists etc.
Jack Selowa who is the Community Relations Officer for De Brochen told Sekhukhune Times that they needed to ensure that local communities benefit from the mines.
“The reasons for the career guidance is to see our Grade 12 learners having a clear vision of what they are going to do next year when they go to universities and colleges. We will run this programme the whole year. “We have bursaries for learners who pass all their subjects with 50 percent upwards. We encourage you to work hard and make sure you become part of us in the future.”

One of the learners Samuel Senong from Nkotoane Secondary School who want to study Mechanical engineering at Wits University told the Sekhukhune Times that he thanked the stakeholders for hosting the expo.
