Warrant Officer dies after armoured vehicle plunges into donga
SEKHUKHUNE – Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a 46 year-old police officer died when a Nyala he was travelling in together with his colleague plunged into a donga along the R37 road next to Manglemang village outside Lebowakgomo on Friday 16 February 2018 morning.
Police said it was alleged the armoured police vehicle (Nyala) was travelling along the road with two officers when it got a puncture.
L.t Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the driver lost control of the vehicle which then swerved off the road and plunged into an adjacent donga, instantly killing the Warrant Officer aged 46 year-old and seriously injuring the other aged 51 years-old.
Ngoepe said the injured member was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
He said the members were on their way to attend to a protest action situation in Atok, Tubatse Fetakgomo Local municipality, in the Burgersfort policing cluster when the accident occurred.
Limpopo SAPS Provincial Commissioner, L.t Colonel General Nneke Ledwaba, who also attended the scene, has on behalf of the Provincial Police Management members and personnel, conveyed deepest words of condolences to the deceased’s family, relatives, friends and colleagues.
Ledwaba further wished the injured member a speedy recovery.
