RAMOGWERANE – A Dedicated Task Team comprising various police units has been placed in motion following a cash-in-transit heist incident which occurred on Ramogwerane road outside Groblersdal in Motetema policing area on Monday 12 February 2018.
Police said it was alleged two G4 Security guards were travelling along Ramogwerane road and when they approached a speed hump, two vehicles, a white Ford Ranger single cab and a silver X-Trail attacked them wherein the occupants started shooting at the security vehicle.
Lt. Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the drive was injured on the leg and the vehicle swerved off the road after he lost control, coming to a halt on the side of the road.
Ngoepe said the gang of 11 suspects armed with rifles then pounced on the vehicle and tried to open it, and when the vehicle couldn’t open, they ordered the victims to lie down and disarmed them of their service pistols.
“The alleged scavengers then bombed the vehicle with explosives and managed to take undisclosed amount of money before they fled the scene,” explained Ngoepe.
He said police were notified and reacted swiftly to the scene which led to the arrest of one suspect who is around his 20s, and undisclosed amount of cash was recovered.
Ngoepe said the arrested suspect would appear before Motetema Magistrates Court soon on various charges including armed robbery.
Police investigations are still continuing.
