The phrase “walk in love” expresses our entire relationship with God and Mankind.
I am an imitator of God, as one of His beloved children. I walk in love, even as Christ also loved me and gave himself up for me, an offering and sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance.
Those who love God are followers of God as His dear children. The phrase as beloved children donates that we are following God because of His love for us. And because God loves us, we love Him. Therefore we imitate as dear children. Now take a moment and think about God.
Think about His goodness and mercy towards mankind. Think about His kindness, love and grace. Think about His love to give Jesus as a sacrifice for our sins and think about Jesu’s love to die in the cross. To imitate God is to be like Him. To love. Jesus is our perfect example of walking in love. He emptied Himself to come to earth in the form of a servant and in the likeness of man, was obedient to the point of death on the cross. Love is giving oneself as a servant in obedience to God.
Paul say: “What am I without love?” If I speak with languages of man and of angels, but do not have love, I have become sounding brass. If I have the gift of prophesy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. God’s love in me is patient, slow to anger or to punish and is generous in providing aid to others. God’s love in me doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, it doesn’t behave inappropriately, it doesn’t seek it’s own way. It rejoices in truth, hope all things and endure all things. The love of God in me never fail.
Thus, the result of sacrificial walk in love is a sweet-smelling aroma to God. As Christians we have a great responsibility to walk in love. A walk in love is not dictated by the doctrines and emotions of men but by God thus imitating Him. John say “Because I keep Christ’s word, God’s love has been perfected in me. This is how I know that I am in him, that if I say I abide in Him then I will walk just like Jesus walked” 1 John 2:5
