JANE FURSE – Police at Jane Furse have launched a massive manhunt for a group of armed suspects following an attempted business robbery and attempted murder incident in Jane Furse on Monday, 05 February 2018.
According to police, it is alleged that in the early hours of Monday morning at about 02:00, a group of armed suspects attacked a local liquor outlet in area, tied security guards at gunpoint and tried to gain entry into the building.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said in the process the suspects started shooting from outside the yard and the owner of the business retaliated by firing back.
Mojapelo said police were subsequently summoned, reacted swiftly and on arrival a cross fire ensued between the criminals and police, until one of the suspects was fatally shot. The other suspects fled the scene before they could rob the business of anything.
“One firearm, which is believed to be one of the weapons used by the suspects during the incident, was recovered on the scene. One of the witnesses was shot and injured. The deceased suspect is still unknown at this stage. No police member was injured,” explained Mojapelo.
Police said suspects in this matter were still unknown and there were no arrests made.
