LEBOWAKGOMO-The police in Lebowakgomo have launched a massive manhunt for seven(7) awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from Lebowakgomo cells. The seven prisoners some of whom were arrested for murder, rape, and armed robbery escaped in the wee hours after cutting the roof of one of the cell blocks.

The escapees whom the community members of Lebowakgomo are now afraid of are sought of Thabiso Maleka (30yrs) arrested for robbery, Lucas Chuene (30yrs) arrested for murder, Motswiri  Mohahlele(25yrs) arrested for robbery, Tshepo Maja (39yrs) arrested for rape and robbery, Mpho Ledwaba (33yrs) arrested for rape and robbery, Frans Maponya (19yrs) arrested for rape and robbery, and Piet Mashaba (19yrs) arrested for rape and robbery.

Piet Mashaba, Frans Maponya, Mpho Ledwaba, and Tshepo Maja they were arrested in June 2017 after assaulting a man who was walking in the streets at Mamaolo next to Lebowakgomo and robbed of their cell phones and clothes at gun point. They took turn in raping the poor woman while her boyfriend was watching without any help.

Kgwedi added that the station will not rest until the seven suspects are back into the cells as they will the lives of the community in danger.  “Our Dedicated Provincial Task Team is up and running following them but at this stage no arrest have been made yet”.

The police investigations into the circumstances of their escape are still continuing.
