ELANDSDOORN – Hundreds of learners, various stakeholders and motivational speakers as well as representatives from the Department of Education converged at the Ndlovu Miracle Theatre in Elandsdoorn during the launch of the “Raising Stars to Shine”.
“Raising Stars to Shine” is a new organization in the area that strives to champion the rights of youth and make sure they access all opportunities available for them to better their lives.
Vusi Mabena, Founder of the Organisation, said the launch of the movement coincided with a their Back to School Campaign and they were happy that it enjoyed attendance of more than 3000 learners from various school in the area.
Mabena said the new organization was aimed at placing urgent focus on the social ills such as teenage pregnancies, high rate of school drop-out and other issues.
“We want to also help in the fight against drugs among youths. There is a platform we need to create to show them that there is more to life than streets,” said Mabena.
He said they would be doing more of their reach out programme this year to ensure that more young people get the message and are made to know of the many opportunities are out there for them.
“We have a challenge of sponsors. Just on this event alone, we have had other sponsors pulling out on us in the eleventh hour. We are hoping more sponsors will come on board and help us assist the youth where possible,” said Mabena.
He called on members of the community to support them so that they are successful in championing the aspiration of the youth.
