PRAKTISEER – Three suspects aged between 31 and 36 years-old arrested at Praktiseer during a sting operation recently were granted bail when they appeared before the Praktiseer Magistrates Court on Wednesday 10 January 2018.
Frans Lekhuleng (36) was granted R1000 bail while Colbert Makgoka (31) and Thabo Mokgethwa (35) were granted R1750 bail each.
The suspects, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles, possession of false number plates and business robberies are expected to reappear before the court on 07 February 2018 for further police investigations.
Police said it was believed that this suspects were members of a crime syndicate which terrorized the local communities, especially businesses, for some time.
Lt Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the arrests were a major breakthrough and that it was achieved following quality and reliable information received from members of the community after a business robbery which occurred on Saturday 23 December 2017 at a local shop in Alverton outside Burgerfort.
During the operation, the following were confiscated: Three cars, a red Golf 7, white Mercedes Benz and a grey VW Polo, A 303 rifle, a 9mm pistol and ammunition and house breaking equipments.
“They were also linked to a series of business robberies in and around Mecklenburg and Driekop areas recently. Police investigations are still continuing,” said Ngoepe.
Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Nneke Ledwaba, has applauded the hard working team of police officers who participated in the operation on the job well done.
“We believe that this milestone achievement will bring a relief to those affected communities, especially the business community. A special message must be directed to all criminals out there that, they can run but they can’t hide until the long arm of the law catches on them,” concluded Ledwaba.
