MECKLENBURG – A 33 years old suspect was arrested after he was found with copper cables worth R600 000 at the shutdown Phokathaba
Mine on January 8.
According to the Mecklenburg Police spokesman Sgt Kgalake Mampuru the police received information from the mine security personnel that there were
21 suspects inside the ramshackle mine at Ga Mahlokwane village.
“The suspects noticed the police vans and ran away to the nearby mountain. Fortunately, one suspect a 33 years old man was cornered and arrested.”
Mampuru said that during the arrest the police found 105 peeled and rolled copper cables estimated at a street value of R 600 000.
Mampuru added that the suspect will be linked with other cases and more arrest was expected.
“He is expected to appear at the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court in due course,” he added.
